Claire Gem and her book Phantom Traces

Abigail Stryker is not your ordinary librarian. She’s reinventing her life after a tragic, secret affair with her late graduate advisor. Abby moves to the tiny burg of Caldwell, NC, her goal to revive the antiquated Harvey library. The task is more complex than she ever dreams. The County Commissioner’s tenacious young wife is hell-bent on shutting the place down, and a pipe-smoking, book-hurling ghost has lately plagued the building.

Jack Wood is a history professor at Caldwell’s community college, his tweed jacket and silver-streaked hair marking him, in Abby’s mind, strictly off limits. But Jack’s taken a new interest in preserving local history since Abby came to town. Unfortunately, it’s his boss who wants the library gone. And Abby’s mindset about older men means Jack will have to work extra-hard to win her heart.

Together, Jack and Abby solve the mystery of the ghost, revealing a tale of another May-September romance from the distant past. In the process, they discover their own perennial truth ~ Love is ageless.

Bio
Claire Gem turns the paranormal genre on its ear by combining the elements of gothic horror, mystery/thriller, and contemporary romance into a genre she calls New Gothic. Claire loves ghost stories, and has done her homework when it comes to exploring the world of paranormal phenomena. She holds her certificate in Parapsychology from Duke University's Rhine Institute of Paranormal Studies. Her obsession with graveyards, a severe case of taphophilia, has served her well—some of her best stories were born in an old graveyard. She also loves abandoned places—asylums, crumbling hotels, places far out in the woods where only the fairies dare to venture. Although she most definitely believes in ghosts, she doesn't suffer from nightmares. They are simply midnight musings for her next gothic novel.
